A Peek Into The Forest

I just love the Forest Friends stamp set... it's classic animals are perfect for bright and colourful kids cards, but I wanted to create a card that shows how you could skew the set for a slightly older audience by introducing a softer colour pallet and more mature layout.
0
Here I've used Certainly Celery as the card base, layering Very Vanilla, Rich Razzleberry, and finally Very Vanilla again to display the stamped scene. We peek through the branches into the forest to spy a deer next to a small tree, both from the Forest Friends set... the tree is inked in Chocolate Chip and Old Olive, then sponged in Old Olive to add some depth. Our little deer is inked with Close to Cocoa, then Whisper White ink has been added to his chest, face and freckles using a blender pen, and his ears have been enhanced with a touch of Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White ink blended together. The branches and grass were created using stamps from the Pocket Silhouettes set, and were inked both in Old Olive and Certainly Celery. The greeting, inked in Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive, came from the now-retired Sale-a-Bration set called Yummy. A tranquil forest scene, sure to appeal to recipients of any age...

Bubbly

I created these sweet little gift tags for birthday party favour bags recently, and thought their fun, bubbly theme would be good to share...
0
0
I used colours from the Stampin' Up! "Bold Brights" collection - the background card stock is Gable Green, the "water" is Tempting Turquoise, and the top layer is Brilliant Blue. Prior to assembly I stamped some sweet little fishes on the Turquoise card stock and coloured them in with a VersaMarker to provide some depth without introducing a whole new colour. I then created "bubbles" in the Brilliant Blue card stock using 3/4" and 1/2" circle punches. When layered, the bubbles act as little windows so you can see the fishes swimming happily around... a cute little peek-a-boo! On the back of the tag I used the greetings from Pocket Silhouettes stamp set, framing the name of the person who would be receiving the gift bag with "friend to friend" (on top) and "thanks so much" (on the bottom).

It (will be) a Boy

As mentioned in a previous post, I've been helping my friend Erin create invitations for the baby shower she's hosting next month... and here are the completed cards!
0
0
The card base is Chocolate Chip, with a layer of Bashful Blue to frame the two-tone layer of Chocolate Chip (on the top) and Bashful Blue Designer Series Paper (on the bottom). Those layers are separated with a border of blue Cosmo glitter, and the card is finished with a Chocolate Chip baby footprint on a raised piece of Bashful Blue card stock. Both the footprint and the "I'm here" message, which was stamped in VersaMark on the Chocolate Chip piece, are from a now-retired stamp set that I've never been able to part with because it's just so sweet. Some things are worth holding on to, and I'm glad to have the opportunity to use the set again!

An Earthy, Two-Tone Birthday

0
This pretty, earthy birthday card features a Bravo Burgundy card base, a Creamy Caramel layer, and a third layer (also in Creamy Caramel) cut with the Top Note die in the Big Shot personal die cut machine. The French text stamped in Creamy Caramel on the background layer is from the Rustic Rooster Winter/Spring 2009 Hostess Set, as are the swirls inked in Bravo Burgundy on the Top Note layer. To enhance the Top Note layer, I sponged Bravo Burgundy ink around the edges - a good way to add definition when two layers of a card are cut from the same colour of paper. The quote by Woodrow Wilson on the raised, fourth layer of the card comes from the Dreams Du Jour stamp set, and is enhanced with tiny brass brads in the centre of each flower.
0
Inside, the simple Birthday Celebrations greeting is inked in Bravo Burgundy and comes from the Upsy Daisy set. I've used the swirl originally seen on the Top Note layer to create a visual connection between the outside and inside of the card.

Baby Blues

A good friend of mine will be hosting a baby shower shortly and I'm helping her with the invitations - a project that's put me in a baby state-of-mind. I was inspired this morning to create a pretty little Congratulations card that would be just perfect to send to any new mom...
0
0
The main colour for this card is Bashful Blue with Chocolate Chip accents thanks to the central border (cut with the scallop edge punch), the greeting's border, the punched flowers and the ink used in both the tree and bunny. Certainly Celery brings a touch of green to the verse, the scallop corner border around the tree and bunny, the lower punched flower and some of the background stamping. The stamp sets used are "Forest Friends", "Itty Bitty Buds" and "Congrats". An antique brad anchors the centre of one of the flowers which were created with the Boho Blossoms punch, and the other punched flower is raised from the card front using Dimensionals.
0
0
The inside of the card finishes the Congratulations sentiment (again, from the "Congrats" set) and is embellished with a bouquet of flowers, most of which are stamped using the "Itty Bitty Buds" set. The one stand-out flower was created with the Boho Blossoms punch and anchored using the same antique finish brad as appeared on the front of the card.
0
The colour scheme of this card lends itself perhaps more to a baby boy than a girl, but I can see how simply replacing some of the blue elements with pink would punch up the feminine feel. I also love the idea of creating this card in neutrals so it would be perfect for the birth of a baby whose gender has yet to be revealed - I often make "congratulations" cards before the actual event to avoid a last-minute rush, and using neutrals would be a great way to get ahead of the game when a friend or family member is expecting!

A Bold Birthday

July is a month of birthdays in my family, starting with my mother on the 6th, followed by both me and my wonderful cousin Sandy on the 16th and my daughter Sophie on the 20th, and rounded out with my Aunt Kathy on the 31st. All those back-to-back birthdays have me in a real celebratory state of mind, which must have been the inspiration for today's card. It's one of those cards that wasn't planned out in advance... I just started picking up papers and layering colours to see what would strike me, and this is the end result!
0
0
The primary colour scheme features both Real Red and Brilliant Blue, and I used Designer Series paper and matching rub-on transfers featured in the Spring 2009 Idea book as a Level 3 Hostess set - they're from the Hand Drawn Bundle package, which included a four piece stamp set as well. Excellent set, which is unfortunately no longer available... but keep your eyes open because that "happy birthday" printed paper may just appear in an upcoming class! The Real Red layer was cut using the Top Note die in the Big Shot die cutting machine, and the tag was created with the scallop circle, 1 3/8" and 1 1/4" circle punches. It's tied together (both literally and figuratively) with 5/8" Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon. Bold and bright, just like some of this month's birthday girls!

Lots of Bots

What a fun, fun, fun stamp set... Lots of Bots is new in the 2009/2010 Idea Book and it offers quite detailed robot artwork with corresponding greetings and accent stamps (the "0000110010001" stamp especially appealed to my binary-code loving self!)
0
0
I created this card layering an awesome stripe from the Delicate Dots Designer Series Paper onto a Brocade Blue card stock base, then got all layer-happy with stripes of Whisper White and Brocade Blue accenting my So Saffron and Sahara Sand framed robots. The nuts & bolts pattern on the white strip was made with one of the sets accent stamps, and I watercoloured the 'bots with shades found in the stripes to pull the colour scheme together. For a finishing touch I added "bolts' of my own with antique silver brads... What a great birthday card for a robot-loving human!

Pretty in Pink (and Rich Razzleberry!)

Yay for the new "In Colours"! I've just started playing around with the decadently bold purple colour called Rich Razzleberry, and I love it...
0
0
Here I've taken a tri-fold card design, added Whisper White panels to the front and stamped them with flowers from the Fifth Avenue Floral set. When inking I used both straight Rich Razzleberry and a softer hue achieved by stamping once on a scrap pad before stamping the image on my white panels - an effect called "stamping off". The accent card stock and the ink I've used to watercolour the bolder flowers is Regal Rose, and I've used silver Filigree Brad as the focal point for the belly band which holds the card closed.
0
0
The inside of the card features the greeting from the Fifth Avenue Floral set, and the edging of the interior Whisper White card stock mirrors the design I used on the front. It's a striking card, very feminine, and would make a lovely greeting card for an Aunt, Mom or favourite friend - it would translate well to special occasions like a birthday as well.

Something Old, Something New

I just received "Forest Friends" (one of the Stamp Sets featured in our new 2009/2010 Idea Book and Catalogue) and decided to put it to use in a pretty, girly card that uses up some of my scraps of older Card Stock and Designer Series Paper.
0
0
Like many of you I never throw out my scraps, so I have bags of small pieces of paper just waiting for a home on a scrapbook page or card. The pattern featured at the bottom of this card is from a lovely set of paper called Berry Bliss, which was offered in the Spring/Summer 2008 Idea Book and goes down as one of my favourite Designer Series Paper sets of all time. I pulled the Purely Pomegranate (a 2007/2008 In Colour) from the pattern and used up yet another scrap of paper for the central border, and made the card base from Pink Pirouette (a 2008/2009 In Colour). The ribbon is 1/4" Whisper White Grosgrain, the ink colour is Close to Cocoa, and the greeting comes from the "A Happy Heart" stamp set (originally meant as a Valentine's set). A pretty and simple card that helps use up those oh-so-valuable scraps... What have you done with your scraps?

Christmas in July

I spent yesterday evening with my Stampin' Up "Upline" Lisa and some of my fellow Demonstrators at our monthly meeting, Justify Fulland we had a blast participating in a "shoe box swap". Each of us designed what was meant to be a simple, classic Christmas card and prepared the supplies for the rest of the group to make our card. It may seem early to be thinking Christmas, but in the crafting world we plan, plan, plan ahead... and I'm already thinking about what classes to prepare for Autumn, so that makes Christmas practically just around the corner!
0
So sit back, imagine some Bing Crosby playing quietly in the background and the smell of cookies in the oven while you check out the cards we created...
0
This card uses the Snow Swirled stamp set, Old Olive and Whisper White card stock, Old Olive & Certainly Celery ink and Old Olive 1/4" Grosgrain ribbon. There is a hint of sparkle on the centre tree thanks to Dazzling Diamonds glitter applied to the snowflake patterns.
0
This card uses the Winter Post stamp set, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla & Bravo Burgundy card stock, gold elastic cording and Bravo Burgundy 5/8" Grosgrain ribbon.
0
This card uses the Autumn Days & Many Merry Messages stamp sets, Mellow Moss & Whisper White card stock, Chocolate Chip & Old Olive Ink, and Mellow Moss ribbon. There is sponging around the edge of the white card stock, and shading around the pine cones thanks to the use of a sponge dauber.
0
0
This card uses the Spotlight On Christmas, All Holidays & Season of Joy stamp sets, Old Olive, Whisper White & Real Red card stock & Ink, and Real Red 1/2" Striped Grosgrain ribbon. The ornament shape was created using a circle punch to create a mask, and then both stamped and sponged.
0
This card uses the Heard From the Heart & Best Wishes and More stamp sets, Elegant Eggplant, Night of Navy, Whisper White & Bermuda Bay card stock, Elegant Eggplant, Night of Navy & Bermuda Bay ink, and Bermuda Bay Polka Dot Grosgrain ribbon. The use of a Rhinestone brad and silver glitter add some dazzle to the design.
0
Feeling Christmassy yet? If any of the above designs strike your fancy be sure to let me know - they may show up in one of my Christmas Card Multi or Stamp-a-Stack classes!
